Manifesto

Finding makers to craft limited collections, built to last.

The philosophy of NUBES is a shop that doesn’t sell items of mass production. We create niche products with independent makers, artists and designers, preserving craft and showcasing talent. Pieces you can wear, objects you use and things to stare at (or all of the above). Quality and oversight are paramount – we want to know how our product is made, who made it and where.

The word nuance itself derives from the Latin for clouds – ‘nubes’. Just like clouds, NUBES will represent different things for different people. Let’s bring a bit more nuance into everything, finding that subtle sweet-spot in the middle, keeping it cloudy.

Since our makers are human, products will be limited to very small numbers. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars clouds.”

We don’t want to talk too much about ‘sustainability’ here because we’re all beat over the head with that word. If oil or fast fashion companies are talking about sustainability, has the word not kind of lost its pizazz? Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

Our approach is to make beautiful products with longevity; stuff that will be kept and valued for a long time. We want to use the best materials and for our makers to be treated well.

Empty vessels make the most noise and the ‘sustainability’ of a NUBES product should speak for itself.

Everything will be nuanced.

We promise to not make fashionable things. Good design is long-lasting.

Products and materials can be functional AND beautiful.

Makers and designers must be human and will be treated as such.

We dig ‘sustainable’ companies, but we’re not into the art of greenwashing.

Chasing clouds is allowed – please send nubes.
